Bring your Troop to Edgeworks!

Learn about climbing in a fun, instructional environment. Topics include climbing and belaying, types of equipment, knots, communication, system checks, and rappelling. Our course is designed to help scouts work on the climbing and rappelling requirements of the Climbing Merit Badge or Climbing Adventure Badge.  

Duration: 6 hours (two 3-hour sessions in one day)
Price: $80/person
Class size: One Troop per course. 6 person minimum / 12 person maximum

We require at least 6 weeks notice for registration. Please see the calendar for current openings. 

Requirement Sign-offs

- Scouting America Troops should coordinate with a merit badge counselor for requirement sign-offs. Scouting America Merit Badge Counselors may attend the merit badge session at no cost to assist scouts with signing off on requirements for the Climbing Merit Badge. All instruction must be done by Edgeworks staff. 

- Are you part-way through a merit badge and want to finish it? Scouts are welcome to sign up for a Private Lesson to work on belaying, rappelling, or other skills. Scouts may also reach out a merit badge counselor and use our facility for the Climbing or Personal Fitness Merit Badges (gym fees apply to those using the climbing walls or fitness equipment).

Minimum Requirements

  • Two registered adult leaders must be present for the duration of the course
  • Read Climbing Merit Badge Handbook (BSA) - or - Climbing Adventure Badge Requirements (GSA)
  • Scouting America(BSA) troops should reach out to a local merit badge counselor to assist with requirement sign-offs
  • Proper Clothing (Activity appropriate - Not too baggy or restricting)
  • This course is recommended for scouts 12 years of age or older
  • The Climbing Merit Badge Course requires a minimum of 6 participants 
  • Adaptive/Accessibility: Essential Eligibility Criteria (EEC)
  • All individuals remaining in the facility must have a current waiver filled out
  • Anyone under 18 years of age must have a waiver filled out by a parent or legal guardian
