Eldorado Peak | East Ridge

Eldorado Peak | East Ridge

Tucked deep within North Cascades National Park, Eldorado Peak offers one of the most iconic alpine experiences in the region. Known for its sharp summit ridge and panoramic views, the East Ridge route is a Cascades classic—challenging, scenic, and endlessly rewarding.

This 3-day trip begins with a dramatic river crossing and a steep climber’s trail that gains nearly 5,000 feet in elevation over just a few miles. Once atop Roush Divide, climbers are greeted with their first full view of Eldorado’s striking profile. From there, a descent to the Eldorado Glacier leads to a rope-up point and a final push to a high camp perched just below the ridge.

On summit day, we ascend the East Ridge, a moderate snow and rock route that culminates in a breathtaking, knife-edge snow arête—one of the most photographed ridgelines in the Washington Cascades. The views from the summit stretch across the rugged North Cascades, making the effort completely worth it.

This trip is perfect for fit hikers and aspiring mountaineers looking for a non-technical but physically demanding alpine adventure. It’s a true introduction to the "American Alps", complete with glacier travel, remote camping, and unforgettable terrain.

Add-On Options
There are many spectacular peaks and routes to climb from the East Ridge campsite, including Dorado Needle, Early Morning Spire, Austera, Primus, and many more. Many groups choose to add a few days to their trip and try to climb a few other highpoints while up on the Inspiration Glacier. Contact us for more information about this option.
