Vantage is a high-desert crag with a vastly different ambiance than that of the evergreen western Washington. Temperatures soar in the summer, making cragging a matter of chasing the shade, and in the winter, they plunge so low that you need to chase the sun. Luckily, spring and fall produce ideal climbing conditions and many days of fun climbing on the basalt columns and blocky entablature.

Frequently overlooked, Tieton houses some phenomenal basalt, and columns that produce great crack and face climbing. The rock quality is generally good, and the relatively few climbers who frequent this massive area end up spread out. There is a frontier-like feel to it, with regular sightings of Western Rattlesnakes, birds of prey, and grazing elk.
